There will be no school in the Monett R-1 School District on Nov. 21, 22, and 23 for Thanksgiving break. Classes will not be held Monday, Nov. 26 so that teachers can attend Professional Development Day training sessions.

The Kings Prairie Community Association will hold an old-fashioned Christmas open house at the historic Kings Prairie school and community center from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6. The school is located off Highway Z, east of Monett, and west on Farm Road 2015 from the New Liberty Church. Cider, hot cocoa and gingerbread will be served. The Barry County Courthouse and Judicial Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23 for the observance of Thanksgiving.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30 at Wheaton High School, 116, McCall.

Crowder College spring 2013 open enrollment for the Monett campus at the Scott Regional Technology Center begins Nov. 26. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. For more information, call 236-2895.

The Mt. Vernon Christmas Parade will be held at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24. Entries should line up before 4 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Middle School on Sloan Street. The parade will proceed to the square. The Mt. Vernon Chamber of Commerce will have a holiday homes tour from noon to 4 p.m. and host a visit by Santa Claus at the County Courthouse at 3 p.m. Parents should bring their own cameras. "Christmas Gifts" is the theme for the Aurora Christmas Parade, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. The parade will line up at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasant and Roosevelt. Awards will be given for top entries. For more information, contact the Aurora Chamber of Commerce at 417-678-4150.

Pierce City's 58th annual Christmas parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. Anyone who would like to participate can contact City Hall at 476-2323 or request an entry form by email at prideofpiercecity@att.net. Santa will be taking pictures with children at the caboose that day.

The 2012 Wheaton Christmas parade will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, beginning at the Body of Christ Outreach Ministries on Highway 86. Free pictures with Santa and candy will be available at 3:30 p.m. Entry forms are available by calling Wheaton City Hall at 417-652-3314.

Countryside Christian Church, located at 1200 N. Eisenhower in Monett, will present a Living Nativity on Dec. 14 and 15 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

A program on knife making will be presented by Tom McGinnis, one of the founders of Ozark Knife Makers. The event will be presented at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26 at the Mt. Vernon Library Branch, located at 206 W. Water St.

The McDowell Jubilee will continue on Saturday, Nov. 24. The open mike format begins at 6:30 p.m. All musicians are welcome to come and play bluegrass and old-time music. The Jubilee is located south of Highway ZZ, southeast of Monett, on Highway VV, near the McDowell sign.

Seniors who would like to sharpen their driving skills are invited to take the AARP diver safety course held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27 in conference room A1 (ground floor) at Cox Monett Hospital. The fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. The fee is waived during November for any veteran or family member of a veteran. Registration is required and can be made by calling 417-354-1COX.
