Dacy Foundation offers cookbook

The Dacy Foundation, in Pierce City, is offering a cookbook that features recipes from a 1970 publication that celebrated the city's 100th birthday as well as new recipes from current residents.

The cookbook, "Pierce City, Past and Present," includes recipes from notable community members who are now deceased. They include Joanne George, Mrs. Harry Chapman, Betty Kelly, Clara Mae Landoll, Cecil Robinson, Roseanne Staponski, Vera Lee Stotts and Gloria Abramovitz.

The cookbook sells for $10 and is available at city Hall during regular business hours, Monday through Friday.

The Dacy Foundation was formed in August of 2002 in honor of the late Jim Dacy, Pierce City Police Chief, who died in the line of duty on Aug. 8, 2001. The foundation has established a scholarship at Missouri Southern State University's police academy.

The foundation has also helped families in need with school supplies, utility and medical bills, supported youth cheerleading, Mighty Mite football and youth baseball, assisted fire victims, provided Thanksgiving baskets to community members, provided Christmas outreach for children and senior citizens, and organizes the annual Easter Egg Hunt, which is financed by local business owners.

"We just want to keep James R. Dacy's love of community alive in his honor," said Julie Johnson, Dacy Foundation board member.
