The Monett High School speech and debate team competed at the Republic tournament on Nov. 2 and Nov. 3.
The following students advanced to semifinals: Cori Arroyo and Colin Randles, novice duo interpretation; Jami Asher, novice storytelling; Tom Younker, oratory and domestic extemporaneous; Sam Martinez, oratory; Kiersten Harper and Haley Henry, duo interpretation; Taylor Renfro and Tanesha Eden, duo interpretation; and Katelyn Morrison, prose and poetry.
The following students advanced to finals and placed: Iris Wormington, sixth, novice domestic extemporaneous; third, novice prose and poetry and third, novice Lincoln-Douglas debate; Tom Younker, second, varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate; Andrew Brown, sixth, storytelling; Tanesha Eden, fifth, humorous interpretation; Anna Cloud, third, third, prose and poetry; Zeina Masri, first, prose and poetry; Garrett Maxey and Zeina Masri, third, duo interpretation; and Jonah Ragsdale, first, domestic extemporaneous.
The varsity placed fifth and the combined team placed ninth out of 25 schools.
