Busy agenda planned for Monett City Council

Monday, November 19, 2012

The Monett City Council has a busy agenda planned for its regular monthly meeting on Nov. 20.

After meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, to review bids for rebuilding the City Park Casino, council members plan to accept a construction bid and introduce an ordinance for a lease purchase for funding the casino project.

In other land issues, the council will hear public comment on a request by Danny Conner to annex most of the land occupied by IMEC east of North Park and west of Highway H into the city limits. Comment will be taken on a request by Saturnino Rodriguez for an easement across the north edge of the city's old landfill, east of the city off Farm Road 1100. Rodriguez is seeking access to land he purchased west of the city property.

An ordinance will be introduced to change zoning for properties on 1000 and 1010 North Central from multi-family zoning into commercial use. Council members will review bids for demolition of the structure at 601 Eighth St., which the city plans to convert into a storm water detention basin.

In financial matters, public comment will be accepted on four ordinances relating to water and sewer rates based on requests by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources as part of funding the water treatment plant through the State Revolving Fund. Agreements will be approved in support of the Monett R-1 School District's application for Federal Emergency Management Agency grant money to build safe rooms at the high school and middle school.

Council members will also review employee health insurance renewal, approve a contract for custodial cleaning services for city facilities and authorize membership in the Missouri Rural Services Workers Compensation Insurance Trust.

Action is also expected on the ordinance renaming the Monett Municipal Airport as the Monett Regional Airport. Final passage is expected on new regulations for off-street parking and loading for businesses and apartments.

Bills will be paid. Department heads will likely provide an update on the latest work by city crews.

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. in council chambers at Monett City Hall. The public is welcome.
