The Monett Historical Society will have its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 705 E. Broadway. For more information, call 235-5908.

The First United Methodist Church in Monett will host its Family one-mile Fun Walk and 5K Run Turkey Trot at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, beginning at the church, located at 1600 N. Central. Registration on race day is $20 for runners and $10 for walkers. Registration forms are available on-line at 222.1stumcmonett.com.

The Barry County Courthouse and Judicial Center will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 22 and Friday, Nov. 23 for the observance of Thanksgiving.

The Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks will hold an open house 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1235 E. Cherokee in Springfield, inside Mercy Children's Hospital.

The Monett Jaycees will host a fundraising paddle party, chili supper and pie auction at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Monett Senior Citizens Center, 405 Dairy. Proceeds will benefit Linn Thornton's Christmas programs.

The Purdy community is invited to attend the annual bonfire, hosted by the Purdy Eagle Backers. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, east of the show barn and will celebrate the commencement of the 2012-13 Purdy Eagles basketball season.

The Pleasant Ridge Special Road District commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19 at the Pleasant Ridge School House on Highway Z. The public is welcome. For more information, call 236-4690.

The Kings Prairie Special Road District commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Grant's restaurant, located on Chapell Drive in Monett.

Cox Monett Hospital Auxiliary will hold a holiday book fair from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20 in the hospital's main lobby, A large selection of cookbooks, children's books and gifts will be available. For more information, call 354-1409.

The 641st Lawrence County Gospel Sing will be held on the afternoon of Sunday, Nov. 25 at the Fundamental Methodist Church, located at 1518 S. Jefferson in Aurora. All singers and musicians are welcome. There will be no sing in December.

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold blood drives from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Cox Monett Hospital and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 20 at Verona High School.

A fish fry fundraiser with vegetables, salad and dessert will be offered at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at the Pierce City Senior Citizens Center, located at 104 Locust. Cost is $4.50 or $3.50 or those age 55 and older. Additional donations accepted.

The annual old-fashioned Christmas open house at Jolly Mill will be held Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Refreshments will be provided. Children are welcome to bring an ornament for Santa's tree. Cameras are welcome for the free event, beginning at 6:30 p.m. both days.

At the next meeting of the Monett Kiwanis Club at noon on Tuesday, Nov. 20, Rev. John Nipper, of the First Presbyterian Church, will give a Thanksgiving message. The club meets at Happy House restaurant.

A limited supply of the Newtonia Civil War battlefield Christmas ornament is available for $10. The decoration shows a photo of the historic Ritchey mansion and family cemetery.
