Richard (Dick) J Hayward, age 80, of Chesterfield, Mo., formerly of Purdy, Mo., passed away on Nov. 9, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Margie Hayward; five children, Rick Hayward and wife, Darlene, Portland, Maine, Debra Pourney and husband, Tom Osmun, Wildwood, Mo., Cynthia Gann, Monett, Mo., Pamela Hayward, Gladstone, Mo., and Sharla Davies and husband, Dave, Lee's Summit, Mo. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as a brother, Gary Hayward, New Orleans, La.
Dick was born on Oct. 23, 1932 in Kansas City, Kan. to Denton and Wanita Hayward. He spent most of his life in the Kansas City area, moving to St Louis in 2010. Dick spent his entire career as a piping engineer with Pritchard Corporation, Black and Veatch as well as Burns and McDonnell from the mid-1950's until his retirement in 1996.
Dick proudly served as a U.S. Marine. He was an avid reader, a John Wayne fan as well as a tinkerer of all things. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Dec. 1 at Holiday Inn, 8551 East Blue Parkway, Kansas City, Mo. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association.
