Justin Beck, of Cassville, has been hired as the new superintendent of the Windmill Ridge Municipal Golf Course. A public reception to greet Beck will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Monett Chamber of Commerce community room at 200 E. Broadway.
According to City Administrator Dennis Pyle, Beck will have full responsibility for all aspects of the golf course's operations, including the clubhouse, pro shop and food service, all of which will be expanding with the opening of a clubhouse. Beck will also oversee course maintenance.
A Cassville native, Beck is a Cassville High School graduate. He attended the San Diego Golf Academy, where he received training to become a golf professional. Beck played golf and studied general business at Missouri Southern State University.
Beck worked as the player services manager for the Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark. in 1999. He subsequently became a professional golfer, passing his players ability test and entering the Professional Golfers Training Program conducted by the Professional Golf Association (PGA).
Beck worked as an assistant golf professional until March 2002, in addition to participating in all golf operations, He then took the position of head professional at the Holiday Island Country Club near Eureka Springs, Ark. Holiday Island had a nine-hole par-3 course and an 18-hole course to manage.
The Monett City Council worked with golf consultant Mike Vogt in a nationwide recruitment to fill the position. Thirty applications were received. The field was narrowed to seven semi-finalists and interviews with two of the three finalists.
Vogt's consulting contract will be extended through June 2013. Vogt will continue to monitor and evaluate turf conditions. His duties will be expanded to include all aspects of the golf course experience at Windmill Ridge.
Vogt is expected to make a presentation on maintenance activities at the course during the reception on Nov. 15. Use of the west entrance along Second Street is recommended.
