Schools gear up to honor veterans

Area high schools will host programs and receptions to honor area veterans this week.

Monett High School will host its Veteran's Day assembly at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 in the high school gymnasium.

MHS alumni and veteran Russ Hagar will be the guest speaker.

Other highlights include reading students essay winners on "What Patriotism Means to Me," performances by the choir and band, a flag folding ceremony, dedication of the flag, an explanation of the yellow ribbon, and the POW/MIA chair.

The event is open to the public. All local veterans are invited to attend.

Pierce City High School's student council is hosting this year's Veteran's Day ceremony.

An appreciation luncheon to honor veterans will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, with the assembly to follow at 1:15 p.m. in the gymnasium.

The oldest veteran in attendance will be honored.

Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP to the high school office at 476-2515 and leave their name, rank, branch of service and information on whether their spouse will be attending.

Verona High School will host its annual ceremony at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12.

The district invites all area veterans to attend.

Purdy School District has slated a Veteran's Day assembly for 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8. A reception will follow.
