All branches of the Barry-Lawrence Reginal Library will be closed on Monday, Nov. 12, for Veteran's Day.

A Community Blood Center of the Ozarks blood drive will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at the First Presbyterian Church, 700 Sycamore. A blood drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 at Pierce City High School; and noon to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at Mercy Hospital-Aurora, 500 Porter St.

A driver safety classroom course for senior citizens, offered by the AARP, will be presented from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Pierce City Senior Citizens Center, 104 N. Locust. For more information, call 476-2464.

A family education seminar on Alzheimer's disease, including the 10 warning signs and the basic symptoms will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Marionville Library Branch, located at 303 W. Washington. For more information, call the Alzheimer's Association at 417-886-2199.

Local artists in the Joplin Regional Artists Coalition, a coalition of nearly 100 regional professional and amateur artists, are showing work in the exhibit "Fusion," showing in December in the upstairs gallery at the Spiva Center for the Arts, Third and Wall in Joplin.

The Monett FFA Chapter will collect donations for Shoeboxes for Soldiers from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 at the Monett Walmart Supercenter. The Monett FFA collects twice each year so soldiers can receive gifts for Christmas and July 4. Chapter members will decorate the boxes before shipping.

Empire District Electric Company has been granted new rates by the Missouri Public Service Commission for water customers in Aurora, Marionville, and Verona. For a residential customer using 5,000 gallons of water a month, the increase will be approximately $7.20. The rates will be effective for service rendered on and after Nov. 23.

Crowder College enrollment for the spring 2013 semester is available on-line at www.crowder.edu. Enrollment for current sophomores begins Nov. 12, on Nov. 15 for freshmen and open enrollment begins Nov. 26. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. The Purdy High School National Honor Society will hold its annual Veterans' Assembly at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8. The public is cordially invited to attend this special event which honors our nation's veterans. Special music will be provided by the Purdy R-2 band and choir, and a special guest speaker will give a patriotic address. A photo slide show will honor local veterans. Veterans who attend the assembly will be presented Certificates of Appreciation. They and their families are invited to attend a special reception following the assembly, where cake and punch will be served.

Verona-area veterans are invited to attend a Veteran's Day assembly at the Verona schools at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12. Those needing transportation assistance are invited to call 417-498-6775.

The 39th annual Golden Age Dinner hosted by Monett High School Student Council will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the school. All senior citizens are invited. Dinner, entertainment, and prizes are provided. Registration is requested and can be made by calling 235-5445.
