Thanksgiving basket collections underway

Thursday, November 1, 2012

The Monett Jaycees will collect food donations for Thanksgiving baskets from Nov. 1 through Nov. 17. The drive is one of the largest of the year to assist families in need in the Monett area.

Donation boxes have been placed at Save-A-Lot, Ramey Supermarket and the U.S. Bank branch at Sixth and Broadway.

Donations can be geared to assist three different family sizes: a family of one to three people; a medium-sized family of four to five people; and a large family of six to eight people.

Baskets will include milk, eggs, turkeys, a package of rolls, five-pound bags of potatoes, boxes of stuffing, canned vegetables and dessert items.

Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted at the drop boxes. Financial contributions and perishable items can be donated by calling Abbey Crockett, project chairman, at 393-8226, or co-chairman Jon Hagar Jaycees president, at 393-8253.

Families eligible for a basket must live within the 65708 zip code. The deadline to apply to receive a food basket is Nov. 15. Applications must include the number of adults and children per family, name, address and contact information.

Nominations for eligible families can be sent to P.O. Box 406, Monett, MO. 65708 or sent by e-mail to monettjaycees@yahoo.com. Baskets are limited to the first 15 families to apply.
