Pierce City R-6 board reviews facilities, grounds plans

Monday, October 22, 2012

Members of the Pierce City R-6 Board of Education reviewed an improvement plan for the district's facilities and grounds at their September meeting.

Areas of concern include: the outdoor track, which is crumbling below the surface; the roofs of the pre-school and kindergarten areas, elementary school nurse office, foyer and high school building; and the old middle school and vo-ag buildings.

Goals for improvement include: replacement of the back-drop curtain on the gymnasium stage; replacement of library carpet; replacing older pilot-light furnaces in the east wing for self-lighting furnaces; replacing chalkboards for white boards; replacing ceiling tiles in the elementary and high schools, including hallways and classrooms; removal of the old greenhouse; removal of the pipe stack at Central Elementary; replacement of exterior doors; and refinishing the gymnasium bleachers

Committee members working on the review included Dr. Aaron Cornman, Kristy Marion, Gayla DeGraffenreid, Steve Garner, Gary Saffer and Brent Lathem.
