Before the start of the contest, Monett High School recognized its three senior volleyball players: Caroline McKinney, Cassie Hagedorn and Morgan Spillman.
"These girls have provided leadership all season long," said Monett coach Crystal Shannon. "We will miss them next year."
The Lady Cubs battled back and cut the lead to four at 15-11. Lamar used a 4-0 run to open an eight-point advantage and cruise to a 25-17 first set victory.
"I really think our hitting errors were the difference in the first set," said Shannon. "We played even with them the rest of the match, but couldn't overcome their lead."
Monett came out fired up in the second set and took a 5-0 lead. Lamar wouldn't fade and countered with a 9-4 run to tie the contest 9-9.
The match would bounce back and forth over the next few points with ties occurring at 11-11, 13-13 and 15-15.
The Lady Tigers built a 19-15 lead, only to see Monett close to 19-18. However, the Lady Cubs couldn't get any closer and fell 25-18.
"We started out strong, but couldn't sustain the momentum," said Shannon. "Lamar rallied and picked up a good win."
Monett opens Distrcit play tonight at Aurora High School against East Newton at 8 p.m.
