The Verona Lady Wildcats volleyball team (13-12-3) earned a 25-18, 25-15 victory over Galena on Oct. 16.
The Lady Wildcats were led by Amanda Mullen with seven kills. Jessica Youngberg contributed five kills and three blocks. Taylor Pinkly recorded four kills. Jordyn Tuten added 10 digs. Leann Hesemann recorded three aces, and Shelby Barsotti finished with 12 assists.
Class 1, District 9
Area schools are preparing for the district volleyball tournaments.
Pierce City secured the top spot in the Class 1, District 9 volleyball tournament on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 at Pierce City High School.
The Lady Eagles (17-9-4) received a bye in to the semi-finals on Oct. 23.
Quarterfinals match-ups for Oct. 22 are as follows. Fourth-seeded Hurley (6-16-1) faces fifth-seeded Miller (2-18-2) at 5:30 p.m. Third-seeded Verona (13-12-3) takes on sixth-seeded Wheaton (4-11-1) at 6:15 p.m. Second-seeded Billlings (16-2-1) entertains Exeter (0-20-2) at 7:30 p.m.
Class 2, District 11
Ash Grove High School secured the top seed for the Class 2, District 11 volleyball tournament to be played Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 at Southwest High School.
The Lady Pirates (23-3) are currently ranked ninth in Class 2. Ash Grove received a bye into the Oct. 23 semi-finals.
Quarterfinals match-ups for Oct. 22 are as follows. Fourth-seed Blue Eye (11-9-3) faces fifth-seeded Southwest (13-8-1) at 5:30 p.m. Second-seeded Clever (14-8-0) battles seventh-seeded Crane (8-9-1) at 6:45 p.m. Third-seeded Marionville (11-9-3) plays sixth-seeded Purdy (9-12-1) at 8 p.m.
Class 3, District 11
The Reeds Spring Lady Wolves (16-7) earned the top overall seed in the Class 3, District 11 tournament on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23 at Aurora High School.
The Lady Wolves received a bye in to the semi-finals on Oct. 23.
Quarterfinals match-ups for Oct. 22 are as follows. Fourth-seed Aurora (7-16-2) faces fifth-seeded Seneca (4-13) at 5:00 p.m. Second-seeded Hollister (13-5-3) battles seventh-seeded Cassville (2-15-5) at 6:30 p.m. Third-seeded East Newton (13-8-1) plays sixth-seeded Purdy (3-17) at 8 p.m.
