May Henry, age 79, of rural Purdy, Mo., passed from this life to her eternal home on Sunday evening, Oct. 14, 2012 at the Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
May was born on April 2, 1933 in Redding, Iowa, the daughter of Wilson Orr and Opal (Hall) Orr. She had worked at Jumping-Jacks Shoe in Monett for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. Her labor of love was working on her farm with her husband. She had many joys in life including spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Penny.
On Oct. 28, 1950 in Eureka Springs, Ark., May Orr and Oren "Hammer" Henry were united in marriage. They were blessed with over 45 years together before his passing on Sept. 26, 1996. To this union two children were born.
May is survived by one son, David Henry, and wife, Dixie; one daughter, Maxine Gray, and husband, Ron, all of Purdy, Mo.; one sister, Hazel Foster, of Cassville, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Lola Stephens, of Mt. Vernon, Mo.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilson and Opal Orr; and five brothers and sisters.
Graveside services for Mrs. Henry will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at the King Cemetery in Washburn, Mo., with her son-in-law, Pastor Ron Gray, officiating. Friends may call upon the funeral home from 1 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
