Carthage- Joplin Regional Stockyards: Feeder Cattle Auction Report for 10/15/12

   Compared to last week, yearling feeder cattle sold steady to firm.  The calf 
market was steady to 2.00 lower with the exception of steer calves under 500 lbs 
which were 3.00-5.00 higher.  Trading was most active for wheat stockers 
including the lighter-weight steers that sold higher and a plainer-end of the 
heifer calves under 500 lbs, many of which had a weaned look.  Price spreads on 
yearlings were wider than recent weeks, due to varying degrees of flesh and 
weighing conditions on the larger consignments.  The Four State Area received 
general rains of 2-3 inches late last week and through the weekend.  Demand was 
good on light to moderate receipts.  Supply included 56 percent steers, 37 
percent heifers, and 7 percent feeder bulls.  Around 37 percent of the run 
weighed over 600 lbs.
