MGE to begin major line upgrades in Monett

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Missouri Gas Energy (MGE) will continue a major upgrade of its gas main system in Monett, beginning in mid-October.

Work will take place along Ninth Street, extending mains approximately 800 feet to the west of Ninth Street on Cleveland. Additional work will extend approximately 4,000 feet north and 300 feet south of Cleveland.

According to Jim Carrier, operations supervisor for MGE, some of the lines that will be upgraded date back to the introduction of natural gas to Monett in the late 1920s. The latest effort will complete improvements on the last part of the original system.

Crews will replace 500 feet of two-inch plastic gas mains, 2,000 feet of four-inch plastic mains, 1,800 feet of six-inch steel gas mains, 800 feet of six-inch plastic main, and all service lines connected to the mains being replaced.

"Every effort will be made to keep traffic interruptions to a minimum," Carrier said.
