Pierce City claims third consecutive district title

The Pierce City Lady Eagles (18-6) claimed their third straight Class 2, District 5 title with an 8-0 victory over College Heights on Oct. 5.

Pierce City outlasted Purdy 7-6 in the semi-finals while the Lady Courgers downed Diamond 9-7 to advance to the championship game.

In the title tilt, the Lady Eagles were in control the entire game.

Pierce City pitcher McKenzie Moreland no-hit the Lady Cougars and struck out eight batters in seven innings of work.

The green and white plated a single run in the second and seventh inning, two in the fourth, four runs in the fifth to provide the margin of victory.

Brooke Ridenour and Monica Sexton each scored a pair of runs for Pierce City. Bailee Hayward collected four hits in five tries including a double.

Pierce City will play at Lamar tonight in the sectional playoff round. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
