Vandals Strike Again

Monday, October 8, 2012

Another one of the concrete flower pots acquired for planting flowers in downtown Monett was destroyed last week. The concrete pot, located in the 400 block of East Broadway, was shattered and found by merchants on Thursday morning. Sharon Garrett, chairperson of the Monett Downtown Betterment Group, which purchased the pots, said the concrete planters will not be replaced, in part because they are very heavy and difficult to move. Smaller terra cotta pots tried earlier have been broken and stolen. "I'm not going to be deterred in our efforts to put flowers downtown," Garrett said. "I don't know what we're going to do." Anyone who has information about vandalism like the breaking of flower pots downtown is asked to call the Monett Crime Stoppers tips hotline at 354-8477 (TIPS). [Times Photo by Murray Bishoff
