Four injured in I-44 crash

Four people were injured in a crash that occurred at 6:28 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3 on Interstate 44 about one mile east of Mt. Vernon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when the driver of a 1998 Pontiac mini van, Steven E. Caruana, 38, of Armada, Mich., went off the roadway and overturned.

Four occupants in the vehicle sustained injuries. Arthur A. Wise, 52, of South Bend, Ind., and Andrew T. Bgoom, an infant, of Fort Wayne, Ind., were taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with minor injuries. Jenny Bgoom, of Fort Wayne, Ind., was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with moderate injuries. Peggy R. Jennison, 76, was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. All parties involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
