Missouri Weekly Hay Summary Week ending 10/05/12

While seeing green grass has invigorated landownwers and the cattle alike
the drought is far from over. Most of the state remains low on soil moisture
and pasture conditions made little improvement. In Southern Missouri there
are reports of fall army worms and some Imported Red Fire Ants have been seen
in Southwest Missouri, both of these pests are piling on to what has already
been a devastating year. Most of the state will be experiencing cooler than
normal temperatires over the next several days and some areas are forecasted
to have frost. This seems to be a continuation of this year's trend with the
seasons arriving a few weeks early. All of these factors continue to contribute
to steady to firm hay prices with good to very good demand for hay and supplies
remaining light. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory
