Building on the success of last year's inaugural event, Monett Elementary School parents, teachers, students and volunteers are gearing up for the second annual Family Fun Fest, which will be held this coming Saturday, Oct. 6 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the school.
The festival, which is open to all community members, will feature a carnival setting with games, food and special presentations for the whole family.
"We are excited about inviting parents and other community members to come and be a part of our annual celebration," said Susie Gasser, MES principal. "This is a time for students and parents to have fun together at school, and it also serves as our fundraiser for our Parent Teacher Organization."
All ages will enjoy a large variety of games, including bowling, a hula hoop game, a ring toss, a corn toss and inflatables. There will also be face painting, balloon animals and a photo spot. A large selection of food will be offered throughout the evening with pizza, nachos, popcorn, cotton candy, sno cones and drinks on the menu.
This year's event will also feature science shows by Heno Head, Jr., at 5 and 6:10 p.m. and a magic show by Greg Mercer at 5:30 p.m. A pie and cake auction will take place at 6:30 p.m. followed by the announcement of silent auction winners at 7 p.m. and the 50/50 drawing winner at 7:20 p.m.
The silent auction features a large selection of gift baskets sponsored by local businesses. Some of the themed baskets include a coffee basket, a baker's basket, a Monett spirit basket, a fall basket and a date night basket.
A new feature of this year's event will be the presence of the Monett Fire Department. Local firefighters will attend the festival to give families an opportunity to view fire engines and equipment.
"We hope people will come out and grab a bite to eat and then enjoy the night with family," said Julie Southard, a member of the Family Fun Fest planning committee. "It is just a good family night out."
Family Fun Fest is sponsored by the Monett Elementary School's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), and the event serves as the group's major fundraiser. Proceeds from the Family Fun Fest will be used for field trips, teacher appreciation efforts and school supplies.
"We have a very supportive PTO who puts in countless hours to provide a fun and safe experience for our students as well as funding a variety of other educational activities and services," said Gasser.
The PTO will also be selling Monett Cubs and Monett Elementary School T-shirts and hats as well as mums and pumpkins for fall decorating.
All Family Fun Fest activities will take place at the elementary school, which is located at 601 Learning Lane off of County Road.
