A reception is planned for Brother Bert Ward, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Purdy Community Center, celebrating his 50 years in the Christian ministry.

A "Glow in the Dark" three-person scramble golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5, at Windmill Ridge Golf Course in Monett, beginning at 8 p.m. Cost is $30 per person. "Glow-balls" will be provided for nine holes of play. Teams can register by calling Mike Knight at 235-6076.

The Monett High School Class of 1962 will be holding its 50th reunion on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5 and 6. On Friday, the class will meet at the VFW Post on West Highway 60. Classmates are asked to bring snacks, drinks and chairs. On Saturday, a Dutch treat breakfast is scheduled at Grant's restaurant on Chapell Drive in Monett. Visits are planned to the Monett Museum and the Camps at 414 Schultz, prior to dinner at the VFW Post. A breakfast is planned at Grant's on Sunday.

A benefit fried chicken dinner for the Jenny Garner Student Memorial in Pierce City will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Pierce City Senior Center, 104 N. Locust. Cost is $7 per person of $3 for children 10 and under.

The Purdy Eagles Marching Band will participate in Missouri Southern State University's 75th annual homecoming parade on Saturday, Oct. 6. The parade begins at 11:30 a.m. on the MSSU campus in Joplin.

The Crafter's Group that meets on the second Saturday of the month will meet on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Denali Dreams, 316 E. Broadway in Monett.

The Monett FFA will host its fourth annual chili supper and auction at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, in the commons area at the Scott Community Technical Center.

The Missouri Rehabilitation Center in Mt. Vernon is sponsoring a toy drive. Donations will be accepted during the parade at Apple Butter Makin' Days on Saturday, Oct. 13. Toys will be given to local children at Christmas.

Flags fly at half-staff on Sunday, Oct. 7, for National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day.

All branches of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8 for the annual staff meeting.

The Lawrence County Health Department will offer its only evening flu shot clinic from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, at the department's office, located at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. Children may receive a free shot or nasal mist. Cost to adults is $15. Other immunizations can be acquired at that time. No appointment is necessary. For more information, call 417-466-2201.

Cox Monett Hospital Auxiliary will hold a scrub sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, in the hospital's main lobby. Life Uniform will be at the hospital selling quality scrubs and accessories at discounted prices. Proceeds will benefit the Auxiliary's healthcare scholarship fund. The 60th reunion of the Monett High School Class of 1952 will meet on Friday, Oct. 12 at the hospitality room at the Monett Super 8 Motel. Alumni from the classes of 1951 and 1953 are invited to drop by to visit. For more information on the reunion, call Lois Hull at 1-573-346-0232.
