Broadway Nights returns Friday

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

Monett's quarterly downtown celebration, Broadway Nights, returns on Friday, Oct. 5, with a variety of activities planned for the evening.

The Monett Chamber of Commerce will offer an chalk walk sidewalk art contest for children and adults. Art may be created from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. using special chalk provided by the chamber. Drawing locations will be assigned.

Judging will begin at 7:30 p.m. Winners in four categories will be named, based on creativity, imagination and color. Artists may compete as individuals or in teams of up to three members. Entry forms are available at the chamber office, located at 200 E. Broadway. For more information, call 235-7919.

Street music will be offered by Funcannon Entertainment on Fifth and Broadway. A dance demonstration will be given from PDC Studio in Monett from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Fourth and Broadway. The studio will have 20 cheerleaders, 20 gymnasts and 15 dancers providing routines.

The Cassville Cruisers will make an appearance with a downtown car show.

Sixteen businesses are participating in the quarterly event, some of which are not located downtown. There will be grand opening festivities for New Beginnings Ice Cream and Deli at 106 Fourth St.

Clothing stores have fall fashions in stock. Fashion Crossroads has lightweight jackets and sweaters plus styles in vibrant colors. Brownsberger's has in-store sales planned on a wide range of merchandise.

The Trunk has sales on jeans and shoes. Peppers and Company will have in-store specials, including buy one jewelry set and get a second at half-price, only on Friday. Along with a wide range of accessories, Peppers will have samples of cheeseballs, popcorn and mulling spice available.

Bruner's will debut the fall line of ornaments on Friday. Halloween and early Christmas items will also be available.

Participating downtown stores will stay open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The coffee houses will remain open until 10 p.m. At Mocha Jo's, Amy Sampson and Kristy Berger will perform acoustic music. At Denali Dreams, Angela Bennett will play and plans to introduce some new songs. Author Laurence Stoll will also be on hand to sign books.

Mocha Jo's has its pumpkin brickle steamer and carmella pumpkin lattes available. Denali Dreams will highlight its fall flavors including hot apple cider and pumpkin spice in lattes and shakes.

Broadway Nights is organized as an opportunity for an old-fashioned night on the town, with after-hours shopping and socializing activities.
