A "Glow in the Dark" three-person scramble golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5, at Windmill Ridge Golf Course in Monett, beginning at 8 p.m. Cost is $30 per person. "Glow-balls" will be provided for nine holes of play. Teams can register by calling Mike Knight at 235-6076.
Tom Wolfe Memorial Post #4207, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will host a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Post, located on Highway 60 west of Monett. The menu will include meat loaf, mashed potatoes, seasons green beans, salad, dessert and beverage for $6.
The Monett Senior Citizens Center will host the autumn dance from 7 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. Admission is $3. Music is by the Fun Timers Band. Those attending are asked to bring a potluck dish or finger food.
An electronics drop-off for materials needing disposal will be sponsored by the City of Monett and the Southwest Missouri Solid Waste District N from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Monett Recycling Center, located at 205 15th St. Computers, telephones, VCRs, batteries, vacuum cleaners and stereo equipment will be accepted free of charge. There will be a charge for TVs, microwaves, computer monitors and fluorescent bulbs.
Monett High School is hosting its 54th annual College Day from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the school gym. Representatives from more than 50 colleges from four states are attending. Juniors and seniors from area high schools are welcome to attend. For more information, call 235-5445.
The Monett High School Class of 1962 will be holding its 50th reunion on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5 and 6. On Friday, the class will meet at the VFW Post on West Highway 60. Classmates are asked to bring snacks, drinks and chairs. On Saturday, a Dutch treat breakfast is scheduled at Grant's restaurant on Chapell Drive in Monett. Visits are planned to the Monett Museum and the Camps at 414 Schultz, prior to dinner at the VFW Post. A breakfast is planned at Grant's on Sunday.
The Cassville Senior Center, located at 1111 Fair St., will host the October dance on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. The Roaring River Sounds Band will provide the music. There is a $4 cover charge. Proceeds will benefit the center.
A benefit for Mark Barnes, son and stepson of Loren and Thelma Barnes, of Freistatt, who was diagnosed with Necrotizing Fascitis will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Galena-Abesville Elementary School, 54 Medical Springs Road. A benefit fried chicken dinner for the Jenny Garner Student Memorial in Pierce City will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Pierce City Senior Center, 104 N. Locust. The Southwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District N is accepting applications for grants for 2013. Funds are available to promote reducing, reusing or recycling solid waste.
