A "Glow in the Dark" three-person scramble golf tournament is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 5, at Windmill Ridge Golf Course in Monett, beginning at 8 p.m. Cost is $30 per person. "Glow-balls" will be provided for nine holes of play. Teams can register by calling Mike Knight at 235-6076.

Due to the size of the crowd expected for the Monett-Cassville football game on Friday, Sept. 28, at Burl Fowler Stadium, Monett High School athletic director Daryl Bradley announced gates will open at 5:30 p.m. He urged Monett fans to arrive early, particularly in light of how well the Cassville fans tend to travel.

Voter Registration Weekend at St. Lawrence Catholic Church will include voter registration after all Masses, including: 6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Local poets are welcome to send one poem of 21 lines or less to Poetry Idol Auditions, PO Box 3561, Ashland OR, 97540. Deadline for entering is Oct. 31. Fifty prizes will be awarded.

The Tri-State Gem and Mineral Society will hold its 14th annual Gem and Mineral Expo today through Sunday, Sept. 30 at Schifferdecker Park in Joplin, beginning at 9 a.m. each day. For more information, call 417-623-1180.

Berean Christian Academy is hosting a "party" fundraiser for Christmas shopping from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3. Products from Longaberger, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Premier Jewelry Designers will be offered.

The Monett Senior Citizens Center will host the autumn dance from 7 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1. Admission is $3. Music is by the Fun Timers Band. Those attending are asked to bring a potluck dish or finger food.

The Barry-Lawrence County Ducks Unlimited Chapter will hold its annual member dinner on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Monett. A silent auction and social hour precedes dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for singles or $50 for a couple. For more information, call Julie Snodgrass at 417-489-1078.

A benefit for Mark Barnes, who was diagnosed with Necrotizing Fascitis will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Galena-Abesville Elementary School, 54 Medical Springs Road. Mark has been in the hospital since July 21. A chili supper will begin at 5 p.m. followed by gospel singing and an auction at 7 p.m. For information, call 417-527-1473.

Cox Monett Hospital is offering mums for $7.50 in nine-inch pots. All colors are available. Tickets are on sale through Oct. 15. Flowers can be picked up Thursday through Saturday at Monett Greenhouse and Garden Center. Proceeds will go to hospital programs. For more information, call 354-1409.

Tom Wolfe Memorial Post #4207, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will host a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Post, located on Highway 60 west of Monett. The menu will include meat loaf, mashed potatoes, seasons green beans, salad, dessert and beverage for $6.

The Newtonia Fall Festival and the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the first Civil War battle of Newtonia will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29. Activities are planned at the Ritchey mansion. Live entertainment, vendors and a car show will be located in the city park near city hall.
