This week's Crop Progress and Condition Report indicates a slight improvement in the pasture conditions around the state. While most regions were indicated to be short of hay and other roughages, this week several small lots of hay were made for sale. Most of the state remains very short to short of stock water also. With just enough rain to slow the grain harvest and interfere with fall hay and not enough to dramatically alter the drought status of the state many of the worries of the summer will seemingly continue intothe fall and winter as well. Hay supplies are light, demand is good to very good, and prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ or for current listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales prices listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).
