Plans are being completed for the 18th annual Missouri Health Care Association District IV Golden Age Games taking place on Friday, Oct. 19 at Monett High School.
The Golden Age Games are open to all residents of Missouri Healthcare Association member facilities.
The Monett games will be hosted by Lacoba Homes. Participants will compete in contests throughout the day-long event. Events include the horseshoe toss, basketball toss, soccer kick, bingo, quiz bowl, craft competition, wheel chair races, cow milking and hog calling contests.
The event gives participating residents the opportunity to become part of a team striving toward a common goal. Many residents return year after year to compete in the games and begin preparing for the events months in advance.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded for first through fifth place winners in each category. Each resident will also receive a certificate for his or her participation in the games, and each facility will receive a team participation plaque.
In addition, the traveling Spirit Cup will be presented to the facility that displays the most team spirit during the competition. First, second and third place high team score plaques will be awarded.
This year's participants include: Lacoba Homes, Monett; Lawrence County Manor, Mt. Vernon; Cassville Health and Rehabilitation; Carthage Health and Rehabilitation; Christian Health Care, Republic; Golden Living Center, Anderson; Autumn Court, Mt. Vernon; Seneca House; Good Shepherd, Lockwood; Medicalodges, Neosho; Joplin Health and Rehabilitation; Maranatha Village, Springfield; Brookhaven, Springfield; Benchmark Health Care, Monett; and Granby House.
