Festival to return to Shell Knob

Thursday, September 20, 2012

The Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce will hold its seventh annual Shakin' in the Shell Fest on the grounds behind Meek's and Country Fresh Market off of Highway 39 in Shell Knob on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The annual festival offers live entertainment, food concessions, a family fun area, a car show, a beer garden, crafters and tethered hot air balloon rides. Adult admission is $1. Children under the age of 18 are admitted at no cost. The event also offers free parking.

Last year's Shakin' in the Shell Fest attracted over 7,000 people. Festival committee members are planning an equally entertaining event for this year.

The festival will begin with a patriotic kick-off at 9:45 a.m., and the Blue Eye High School Band and Shell Knob School Band are scheduled to perform at 10 and 10:30 a.m. respectively.

At 11 a.m., a line dancing demonstration will be performed on the festival main stage. The popular Ugly Dog Contest will start at 11:30 a.m.

Afternoon entertainment will include two local bands. Evelyn Lock and the Outriders will perform at 1 p.m., and J Rock and the Third Street Band will take the stage at 4:30 p.m.

Electrified Karaoke with Rod Philips will close the night. Karaoke will be offered beginning at 8 p.m.

The 23rd annual Shell Knob Classic and Custom Car Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the festival. Registration will held from 9 a.m. to noon, and awards will be presented at 3 p.m.

The family fun area will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. This year, the family area will offer face painting, a sand pile of prizes, a cupcake walk, horse rides, inflatables, games and other fun activities.

All area residents are encouraged to mark their calendars for this year's Shakin' in the Shell Fest.
