A spaghetti dinner will be hosted by American Legion Post #91 on Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12, The cost includes salad, dessert and beverage. The Post is located at 717 E. Broadway.

All branches of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8, for the annual staff meeting and training day.

Crop producers have until Oct. 1 to purchase coverage through the Noninsurable Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP), which covers low yields, loss of inventory or natural disasters preventing planting. For more information, contact the Barry County Farm Service Agency at 417-847-2111.

A benefit fried chicken dinner for the Jenny Garner Student Memorial in Pierce City will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Pierce City Senior Center, 104 N. Locust. Cost is $7 per person of $3 for children 10 and under.

The Missouri Department of Conservation will be conducting a hunter education class from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct.12, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 13 at the University of Missouri Southwest Research Center near Mt. Vernon. For information, call Andy Barnes at 417-461-4586.

Food service training for festivals, restaurants, fast food establishments and convenience stores will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21 and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. The Newtonia Fall Festival and the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the first Civil War battle of Newtonia will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29. Activities are planned at the Ritchey mansion. Live entertainment, vendors and a car show will be located in the city park near city hall.

A country breakfast will be served at the Pierce City Senior Citizens Center from 7 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. The meal will include eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy and beverage for $5, or $3.50 for children ages 5 to 10. Former Pierce City students will be in town for a reunion weekend. The Freistatt Fire Department will host an antique tractor and lawn mower pull at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, on the Ernte Fest grounds in Freistatt. Admission is $10, free to children 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the fire department.
