A Monett man sustained serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 5:55 a.m. on Sept. 11 on Highway 174 about two miles east of Mt. Vernon.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when the driver of a 1998 Chevrolet 1500, David L. Buck, of Monett, crossed the center line and struck a 1986 Freightliner dump truck, driven by Michael J. Curbow, 51, of Aurora, head on. Both vehicles skidded off the south side of the roadway and the Freightliner caught fire.
Buck was taken to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
* Five people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 5:12 p.m. on Sept. 11 on Highway 174 about 10 miles east of Mt. Vernon. The crash occurred when the driver of a 1993 Dodge Dynasty, Nadia A. Hendrix, 17, of Republic, struck a 2010 Dodge Caliber, driven by Carissa A. Miller, 38, of Springfield, from behind. Hendrix sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Cox Hospital South in Springfield. She was not wearing a seat belt. Also injured were Miller and three passengers, Haley M. Curio, 15, Alan K. Miller, 48, and Erica Miller, 81, all of Springfield. They were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with minor injuries. They were all wearing seat belts.
