Preparations are complete for the 2012 Monett High School homecoming celebration on Friday, Sept. 14. The Cubs will face the East Newton Patriots at Burl Fowler Stadium for a gridiron showdown.

The royal court will be introduced to the student body in a pep assembly at 2:15 p.m. on Friday in the school gymnasium.

For the first time, the queen will not be announced until coronation ceremonies at 6:30 p.m. at the stadium, prior to the 7 p.m. kick-off.

Candidates for the honor of queen are three seniors: Baily Pfitzner, daughter of Doug and Pika Harris and James Pfitzner; Morgan Spilman, daughter of Brian and Jennifer Spilman; and Brenda Maciel, daughter of Abraham and Selene Maciel.

Other members of the royal court are junior attendant Monica Zengotita and sophomore attendant Melanie Zengotita, daughters of Itza and Jaime Zengotita; and freshman attendant Iris Wormington, daughter of Jared and Medi Wormington.

This year the homecoming parade has been moved back to Friday. Principal David Steward said too many activities were scheduled on Thursday to hold another night parade. To avoid a rush to the parade, school will be dismissed at 2:55 p.m. The parade will follow at 3:45 p.m., heading east on Broadway from First Street.

Each grade level will enter a float in the parade, based on the theme, "A Hero's Homecoming." The winner in the judging, which will take place during the parade, will be announced during halftime at the game.

A homecoming dance, sponsored by the Student Senate, will follow the football game from 9 p.m. to midnight at the high school.
