Motorists using Highway 39 in Shell Knob will find traffic signals operating around the clock on the Shell Knob bridge. Work is being done on half of the bridge at a time. Signals are on a five to six minute cycle no matter what time of the day. The Missouri Department of Transportation said drivers not obeying the signal risk a head-on collision with oncoming traffic.

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive from 7 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the main plant of EFCO, a Pella company, on 1000 County Rd. in Monett. Another drive is planned for 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20, at the First Baptist Church, 611 S. Vine in Mt. Vernon.

The Freistatt Fire Department will host an antique tractor and lawn mower pull at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, on the Ernte Fest grounds in Freistatt. Admission is $10, free to children 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the fire department.

The Southern Missouri Bee Keepers of Monett will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the First Methodist Church, 1600 N. Central in Monett. For more information, call John Schmidt at 235-7726.

The descendants of John and Lula Ridenour will hold their annual reunion at 1 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 29, in the Cassville First Baptist Church Life Center. Participants are asked to bring a covered dish.

The 60th reunion of the Monett High School Class of 1952 will meet on Friday, Oct. 12 at the hospitality room at the Monett Super 8 Motel. Alumni from the classes of 1951 and 1953 are invited to drop by to visit. For more information on the reunion, call Lois Hull at 1-573-346-0232.

The Monett Band Boosters will have a tailgate party from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 west of the main entrance to Burl Fowler Stadium. Hamburgers with chips, potato salad, cookies and a drink are available for $5 or a hot dog meal for $4.

The Southwest Missouri Solid Waste Management District N is accepting applications for grants for 2013. Funds are available to promote reducing, reusing or recycling solid waste. Any business, school, public entity, civic or non-profit organization in Barry or Lawrence County can apply. Deadline is Oct. 1. For more information, call Joyce at 236-9012.

Children's author Jo Ellen (Humphrey) Black, the author of "Clyde McLivingston Takes a Walk," will return to her home in Marionville to speak at the Marionville Branch of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 22 as part of Applefest. The Monett City Council will hold a work session at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, to discuss storm sirens and radio communications, off-street parking, a review of candidates for the position of assistant general manager of utilities, and financing for the new City Park Casino.

Crop producers have until Oct. 1 to purchase coverage through the Noninsurable Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP), which covers low yields, loss of inventory or natural disasters preventing planting. For more information, contact the Barry County Farm Service Agency at 417-847-2111.
