The Monett Cubs soccer team (3-2) fell 4-3 to Logan-Rogersville Wildcats Thursday night in double overtime.
The Wildcats' Tucker Brown recorded a hat trick including the game winner in the 98th minute.
The Cubs dug an early hole falling behind 3-1 at halftime.
"We played really poor defense the first half," said Monett coach Dan Janssen. "Goalie Caleb Blue bailed us out a few times or it easily could have been 5-1 at halftime."
Logan-Rogersville's Ty Stevens scored the game's first goal in the 13th minute. Monett's Eddie Aceves responded three minutes later with a score off a pass from Efrain Ceniceros.
Brown then went to work scoring goals in the 21st and 23rd minutes.
The Cubs were all too happy to get the game to halftime and have a chance to regroup.
Monett wasted little time attacking after the break. Striker Jairo Rueda scored an unassisted goal at the 42-minute mark Miseal Cordero off an assist by Francisco Morales, tied the game at the 54th minute mark.
"We were able to regroup for the second half with better passing and some defensive adjustments," said Janssen. "We had a few good chances to take the lead and win during the last 10 minutes of regulation and the first overtime, but were unable to capitalize."
Brown scored the winning goal in the 98th minute off a quick corner kick that the Cubs were not fully ready to defend.
"I am proud of the way we battled back," said Janssen. "Last year when we got in a hole, we stayed there. We knew we could play with them because apart from our defensive miscues, it was a really even game."
Monett will be in action on Tuesday at Carthage. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
