A high thunderhead sporting winds in excess of 60 miles per rolled through Purdy and darkened downtown Monett from afternoon to night conditions for a brief period on Thursday. The storm turned flags to blowing straight up and bathed Monett streets with showers before quickly moving north.

From the downtown area, only the tail of the north arch was visible. Remnants of the rainbow were visible for nearly 30 minutes. [Times Photo by Murray Bishoff]

Following the passing of the storm, a large rainbow broke through the clouds as rain continued to fall. A double rainbow could be seen to the south of Monett, visible over the Highway 60 bridge crossing Waldensian Road, shown at right. From the Monett High School practice field, the complete arch of the rainbow was visible. [Times Photos by Murray Bishoff]
