Jim Staley, who has authored "The Courdins of Val Pellice, a Waldensian Chronicle," a richly illustrated book with photographs on the Courdin family that helped found the local Waldensian Church and develop the Monett community, will be signing copies of his book on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Monett Museum, located at 705 E. Broadway, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt will celebrate Missouri Festival on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. Rev. David Andrus, executive director of the Lutheran Missouri for the Blind and Visually Impaired Persons, will deliver the message and speak after the basket dinner that will follow in the fellowship hall.

The third annual Community Country Fun Fair will be held beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Berean Christian School, east of Monett on Highway 60. There will be a car show, carnival, craft show, games, pie contest, petting zoo and live music.

The Kings Prairie Community Association will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Kings Prairie School. Discussion will focus on using the 2012 music festival proceeds on construction of restrooms at the school. For more information, call Nancy Dotson at 417-442-7910.

Purdy Elementary School will celebrate Grandparents' Day on Friday, Sept. 14, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Grandparents and other "special guests" are invited to visit their grandchildren's classrooms for fun activities, refreshments and memory-making opportunities. A special patriotic service honoring the late Army Specialist Christopher Stark, of Monett, will be held by Tom Wolfe Memorial Post #4207, Veterans of Foreign Wars, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Monett Community Church, 2101 E. Cleveland. The public is welcome to attend.

The Not So Square Festival in Mt. Vernon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Marc, 822 W. Mt. Vernon Blvd. Artists booths are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with more than 50 booths staffed by painters, potters, authors, photographers and artisans. Live entertainment runs from 10:30 to 5 p.m. Presentations will be made by authors in the Marc Theatre beginning at 10 a.m. A gallery of student art will be on display. Admission is free.

Pierce City Branch Library will host another stamping class with Kristin Nama, at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 in the community room. Nama will demonstrate a number of stamping and card-making techniques and ideas to make unique greeting cards for friends, family and loved ones.

A CPR class with first aid for adults, children and infants will be offered from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 at the Berean Christian Academy, taught by Shane Anderson of the Monett Fire Department. Cost is $40. A basic life support/healthcare provider CPR course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Monett police station. Cost is $40. The Ozarks Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America will have its annual School Night to Join Scouting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Monett American Legion Home, 717 E. Broadway.
