BCDD board sets 2012 tax levy

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

Members of the Barry County Tax Board for the Developmentally Disabled (BCDD) approved setting the tax levy at seven cents per $100 assessed valuation, the same as the 2011 tax levy.

Board members Florene Towers, Ruth Thompson, Ted Powers, Marvin Phipps and Tricia Jones voted in favor of the action. David Sater voted against it, citing the nearly $1 million of funding held in reserve by the board.

The 2012 tax levy was based on a total assessed valuation of both personal and real property in the amount of $444,281,784. The 2011 levy was based on a total of $442,027,132. Anticipated tax revenues for the organization this year are approximately $312,955, up from $300,000 in 2011.

In other business, the board:

* Approved $9,740 in state funding shortfall to the Monett Area Workshop for 33 Barry County workers for a period of 22 days.

* Heard from Jhan Hurn, head of Community Support Services, concerning 133 case management clients. Hurn said client records were being transferred to an electronic format. Hurn also advised board members of a picnic for developmentally disabled clients taking place from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 at the Monett Park and encouraged board members to attend.

The next meeting of the Barry County Tax Board for the Developmentally Disabled will be art 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 at the Cassville Branch Library.
