Scouts to hold School Night Sept. 6

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

The Ozark Trails Council of Boy Scouts of America will be having its annual School Night to Join Scouting on Thursday, Sept. 6. The event will be held at Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91, located at 717 E. Broadway, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Boys in grades first to fifth are encouraged to attend.

The annual registration cost is $15 per year. An optional annual subscription to "Boys' Life" magazine is available for $12.

"Scouting helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives," said Bryon Haverstick, Boy Scouts district director. "While various activities and youth groups teach basic skills and promote teamwork, Scouting goes beyond that and encourages youth to achieve a deeper appreciation for service to others in their community."

Participation in Scouting provides a sense of importance as an individual. Activities encourage personal responsibility.

"As a result, when hard decisions have to be made, peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made," Haverstick added.
