Jim Staley, who has authored "The Courdins of Val Pellice, a Waldensian Chronicle," a richly illustrated book with photographs on the Courdin family that helped found the local Waldensian church and develop the Monett community, will be signing copies of his book at the Monett Museum, located at 705 E. Broadway, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Habitat for Humanity, the Monett/Purdy affiliate, will have a board meeting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at the First Christian Church, located at Fourth and Wishart. Plans for the dedication of house #6 will be discussed.

A blood drive for Community Blood Centers of the Ozarks will be held from noon to 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, at the American Legion Home, 717 E. Broadway in Monett, and from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at St. Mary's Catholic School in Pierce City.

Missouri Department of Transportation crews will begin work on Sept. 11 on Highway 86 between Highway H in Barry County near Golden and Highway 13 near Blue Eye. Route 86 will be widened to add two-foot shoulders with edgeline rumble stripes. Crews will start work on Oct. 9 on Highway 39 between Route H near Carr Lane in Barry County and the Arkansas border.

Chief Sarcoxie Days will be held Sept. 6 through Sept. 8 in the Sarcoxie square. The celebration includes a carnival, baby contest and a parade on Saturday. Two will be named the festival chief and squaw to reign over the festival. Crafts booths will be on hand. For information, call 417-592-8901.

A benefit sale to help Sherry Hulett and her daughters will be held Sept. 7 and Sept 8 at 8046 Lawrence 2220, two miles off Highway H. For information or to make donation, call 417-229-3027.

The Verona Athletic Booster Club will host a benefit garage sale, beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, in the Verona High School cafeteria. Proceeds will benefit Verona High School athletics.

A truck and tractor pull, sponsored by the Freistatt Fire Department, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Ernte Fest grounds in Freistatt. There will be a kids pull at 5 p.m. and a tractor pull at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 and free to children 12 and under. Proceeds benefit the Freistatt Fire Department.

An interactive kids' indoor cycling program will start on Monday, Sept. 10 at Cox Monett Hospital. Kids can play a video game and exercise at the same time. Classes are offered from 4 to 5 p.m. on Mondays and 4 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Children must be four foot, 11 inches to fit the bike. For more information, call Lauren Holland at 236-2596.

The Not So Square Festival in Mt. Vernon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Marc, 822 W. Mt. Vernon Blvd. Artists booths are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with more than 50 booths staffed by painters, potters, authors, photographers and artisans. Live entertainment runs from 10:30 to 5 p.m. Presentations will be made by authors in the Marc Theatre beginning at 10 p.m. A gallery of student art will be on display. Admission is free.

Entries are being accepted for the Aurora Chamber of Commerce's annual Little Miss and Mister Houn Dawg and Little Miss and Mister Beagle pageant for children ages 4 to 10 on Saturday, Sept. 15, at Pate School Auditorium. Entries must reside in Lawrence, Barry or Stone counties. Deadline for entries is Sept. 10. Applications are avaliable at the chamber office, Norma's InLine Fashions, A Salon or Perfect Images.
