There will be no Monday-Tuesday issue of The Times next week because of the Labor Day holiday. The next issue will be Wednesday, Sept. 5.

The Miller Fall Festival will be held Aug. 29 through Sept. 1 in downtown Miller. There will be games and live entertainment nightly. The parade will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1. Participants should gather at 12:30 p.m. at the high school.

Chief Sarcoxie Days will be held Sept. 6 through Sept. 8 in the Sarcoxie square. The celebration includes a carnival, baby contest and a parade on Saturday. Two will be named the festival chief and squaw to reign over the festival. Crafts booths will be on hand. For information, call 417-592-8901.

A benefit sale to help Sherry Hulett and her daughters will be held Sept. 7 and Sept 8 at 8046 Lawrence 2220, two miles off Highway H. For information or to make donation, call 417-229-3027.

A luncheon will be hosted by Tom Wolfe Memorial Post #4207, Veterans of Foreign Wars, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The menu will include beef stroganoff, egg noodles, green beans, salads, dessert and beverage for $6. The Post is located on Highway 60, west of Monett.

A free gospel music concert featuring Steve Hess and Southern Salvation will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 700 E. Sycamore in Monett. Hess is the nephew of gospel Hall of Fame member Jake Hess.

Rain date for the 24th annual Pierce City Car Show will be Sunday, Sept. 2. The show is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Pierce City South Park. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The fee to participate is $15. The top 75 vehicles will receive a trophy. The Pierce City High School Project Graduation is the vent sponsor this year. Booth space is available for a Country Fun Fair, presented by the Berean Christian Academy from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8. This outdoor event will be held at Berean, one mile east of Lowe's on Highway 60. Activities will include a car show and cruise-in, bounce houses, carnival games, blue ribbon pie contest, entertainment and a pie contest. Space is limited. For information, call 417-772-4494.

Local Vietnam Veterans Chapter #1023 will meet Sunday, Sept. 2, at Grant's restaurant in Monett, east of Walmart. All veterans are welcome. For information, call 471-271-3835.

The Monett Senior Center will hold its second annual Bib Overall Dance from 7 to 10 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3. The Fun Timers Band will play. Participants are encouraged to bring potluck or finger food. The center is at 405 Dairy St.

All library branches of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library system will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

A special patriotic service honoring the late Army Specialist Christopher Stark, of Monett, will be held by Tom Wolfe Memorial Post #4207, Veterans of Foreign Wars, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Monett Community Church, 2101 E. Cleveland. The public is welcome to attend.

Monett Alcoholics Anonymous meets at St. Lawrence Catholic church, located at 405 Seventh St., at 7 p.m. on Sundays, and at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.
