He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (Moennig); daughter, Angela, (husband, Thor Templin); son, Christopher (wife, Priscilla); and six grandchildren: Morgan, Marley, Aethelred, Madilyn, Molly and Theodoric.
Born in Sacramento, Calif. to Carmond and Shirley, he found a home and love in Monett, Mo.
Michael received both his B.A. and M.A. degrees at the Univ. of Missouri and then his Ph.D. at the Univ. of Illinois before beginning his prolific career in plant cellular genetics. This career led him to explore all corners of the country and many places across the globe which would give rise to numerous publications and patents.
He was working at Cibus US LLC. in San Diego, Calif. when diagnosed only 14 months ago with his terminal illness. He is also survived by father, Carmond, his brother, Bill, and sisters, Sherri and Debbie.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012 at 4 p.m. at the CrossRoads Church at Westfield (19201 Grassy Branch Road, Westfield, Ind. 46074).
