The Monett Lady Cubs volleyball team dropped its season opening match 25-8, 25-18 to the Carthage Lady Tigers Tuesday night.
"Carthage is a strong team and will be a leader in their conference this year," said Monett coach Crystal Shannon. "I feel like we came out knowing it would be good competition, but we really stepped it up in the second game. Our passing was strong and the girls really hustled, but we just needed more kills and fewer errors.
"I feel like the match helped us identify our strengths and also areas to improve," continued Shannon. "I've seen a lot of growth from the beginning of the summer to our first game, and I'm excited to see where we go from here."
