Fire Destroys Barn

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

A fire at the Michael Greenhaw farm, in rural Monett on Sunday, destroyed an older barn at the rear of the farm buildings. Both Monett rural and city firefighters responded to the scene. The barn, used at one time for milking and believed to have been around a century old, burned quickly. By the time firefighters arrived, the barn was fully engulfed. Firefighters stopped the fire where they found it, coming within five yards of the propane tank and 10 yards of the house. Hay, tools and fencing equipment were stored in the barn. Greenhaw said he had not brushhogged a nearby pasture full of dead grass for fear of starting a fire. Firemen speculated the cause of the fire was electrical. [Times Photo by Murray Bishoff]
