Kittens Delay Demolition

Monday, August 27, 2012

Demolition workers in the 400 block of Seventh Street in Monett briefly paused in their endeavors on Thursday in an attempt to rescue a young mother cat and her two kittens. The young feline had temporarily sought shelter in an abandoned house across the street from the St. Lawrence Catholic Church to bear her small litter. Despite the attempts of animal control and the cat's owner, Elaine Daniel, the mama cat refused to abandon her kittens during the initial demolition phase. Daniel said that when workers broke for the evening she was able to lure the mother cat and one of the kittens out of their precarious position. According to Daniel, the work crew hired for the demolition work cooperated by starting their work at the front of the structure instead of the back as they had originally planned.
