The Monett Chamber of Commerce office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. next week, Aug. 28-31, as part of the schedule change for the last four business days of each month.

The 100 Mile Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25. The traditional route on Highway 37, through downtown Monett and east from Kyler on Highway 60 will be followed.

A free gospel music concert featuring Steve Hess and Southern Salvation will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 700 E. Sycamore. Hess is the nephew of gospel Hall of Fame member Jake Hess.

All branches of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3 for Labor Day.

A Monett High School parent support meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29 in the high school commons area. Upcoming student events will be discussed. Parents are encouraged to attend.

The Zumbathon at Monett High School on Aug. 25 to benefit Magic Moments Riding Therapy has been cancelled.

Listening posts for Seventh District Congressman Billy Long have been scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Monett Chamber of Commerce office, 200 E. Broadway, and from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Marionville Library Branch, 303 W. Washington.

Beginning next week, new signs will be posted on state highways to remind motorists of the new law to slow down or change lanes when approaching emergency or maintenance vehicles parked on the shoulder.

The 54th annual Wheaton Barbecue will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the city park. Booth space for arts and crafts vendors can be reserved by calling 417-652-7359. Activities begin with the car show at 9 a.m. Serving begins at 11:30 a.m. Live music begins at 3 p.m. The horseshoe tournament is at 11 a.m. Carnival rides start at 1 p.m. The duck race is at 8 p.m. A community church service is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26, sponsored by the Wheaton Ministerial Alliance. William Blackburn will be the speaker.

The Barry County Retired School Personnel will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Monett. A hot breakfast will be served.

Rev. N. Wayne and Esther Nigh, missionaries to Germany and Thailand, will speak at the Faith Worship Center, 3045 S. Elliott Ave. in Aurora, on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. and Aug. 27 through Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Pastor Arnold Ray Evans at 235-5329.

The 638th Lawrence County Gospel Sing will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Reavisville Baptist Church, southeast of Aurora on Highway TT. Lonnie Lawson will be master of ceremonies. Singers and musicians are welcome.

The annual Barry County land sale for unpaid taxes will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 27. The sale will be held at the historic Barry County Courthouse. Bidders must register in advance with the collector's office, where agent forms and a list of properties are available.

A free photography class will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Purdy Branch of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library. Bob Ball, wildlife photographer, will lead the class. The library is located on Highway C at Fourth Street. For more information, call 417-442-7314.
