FUM prepares for Serve 2012

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Volunteers constructed an accessible entry into a home as part of their efforts in Serve 2011. Similar home improvement projects for homeowners unable to undertake the work on their own are being sought for Serve 2012 on Sept. 8 and 9. To request a project, contact Charlene Dart at 235-7444
Serve 2012, an annual outreach effort sponsored by the Missouri Methodist Conference, will see activity in the Monett area as local churches band together on service projects on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8 and 9.

Local participating churches include: the First United Methodist Church and Christ Methodist Church, Monett; Liberty Methodist Church, and New Liberty Methodist Church, rural Monett; First United Methodist Church, Pierce City; and Dry Valley Methodist Church, rural Pierce City.

According to Charlene Dart, local coordinator, volunteers will undertake projects homeowners are not able to manage on their own.

"We will be taking work orders for painting, light construction, window washing, yard work, tree trimming, etc. We would love to fill our days with community service," Dart said. " If you have a project needing done, please call 235-7444."

The volunteers will have a cookout and service at Monett's South Park on Saturday, Sept. 8, following the day's work, beginning at 5 p.m.

"Everyone is welcome to join these churches in praising and giving thanks to God for our blessings," Dart said. "After Sunday's activities, we will join together at North Park at 4 p.m. to conclude with an ice cream social. Again, everyone is welcome to attend.

Last year, more than 500 hours of community service were logged by 185 members of three Monett area churches as part of Sunday's Serve 2011.
