The descendants of John F. and Tina (Doty) Hall will hold their annual Hall family reunion on Sept. 2 at the Fellowship Hall of the Verona Baptist Church. A buffet-style covered dish luncheon is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. All family members and friends are invited to attend.

The Barry County Republican Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Grant's Restaurant in Monett. State Senator Jack Goodman will be the featured speaker. Local Republican candidates will also be in attendance to introduce themselves.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office announces the mobile application "Recently Released" for the sheriff's office website. This feature will allow citizens to view inmates released from the Lawrence County Jail within the last 48 hours. The application is the newest upgrade to the sheriff's office website.

The Freistatt Fire Departments truck and tractor pull will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15 at the Ernte Fest fairgrounds in Freistatt. The kids' pedal pull will be held at 5 p.m., with the tractor pull to follow at 6 p.m. Admission is $10. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free of charge. All proceeds will benefit the Freistatt Fire Department.

A free photography class will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Purdy Branch Library. Bob Ball, wildlife photographer, will offer instruction on how to best photograph nature. The library is located at Highway C and Fourth Street in Purdy. For more information, call 417-442-7214.

The Monett Area YMCA is accepting registrations for its fall youth soccer and youth flag football programs. This is a 10-week league that ncludes three weeks of practices. Games will be played on Saturdays. Registrations for guaranteed placement is Aug. 24. Games begin on Saturday, Sept. 22. Registration for fall sports will be accepted at the Monett Area YMCA, located at 205 Euclid St. in Monett. For more information, contact Jeramy Kee at 417-235-8213.

Food Service Training has been scheduled for 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 21 and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the Lawrence County Health Department, located at 105 W. North St. in Mt. Vernon. Food workers for festivals, restaurants, fast food establishments and convenience stores are welcome to attend. Cost of the class is $10. All festival workers for Apple Butter Makin' Days, the Miller Fall Festival and Apple Fest are encouraged to attend. Non-profit organizations are not charged a fee.

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Aurora will host an informal concert of bluegrass, country and gospel music at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, at the church, located at the corner of Pleasant and Washington Streets in Aurora. Musicians and listeners are welcome. Refreshments are available. The concert is free, but donations are appreciated.

The 54th annual Wheaton Fire Department Barbecue is slated to take place starting with The Show and Shine Car Show at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Wheaton City Park. The 18th annual Spud McCracken Memorial Horseshoe Tournament gets underway at 11 a.m. Events will continue throughout the day, ending with the Duck Race at 8 p.m. and Edwina Tichenor's Karaoke at 8:30 p.m.
