A presentation on shingles and the shingles vaccine will be presented at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, by Old Town Pharmacy at the Monett Senior Citizens Center, located at 405 Dairy St. in Monett. Shots will be available that day.

The descendants of John and Tina (Doty) Hall will hold their annual Hall family reunion on Sept. 2 at the Fellowship Hall of the Verona Baptist Church. A buffet-style covered dish lunch is scheduled for approximately 1:30 p.m. All family members and friends are invited to attend.

A free photography class will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Purdy Branch of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library. Bob Ball, wildlife photographer, will lead the class. The library is located on Highway C at Fourth Street. For more information, call 417-442-7314.

Aurora High School is kicking off the school year with a Back to School blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23 for the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks. The high school is located at 305 W. Prospect.

The 24th annual Pierce City Car Show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Pierce City South Park. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The fee to participate is $15. The top 75 vehicles will receive a trophy. For more information, call Kevin Hatfield at 417-850-0940.

Food service training for festivals, restaurants, fast food establishments and convenience stores will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21 and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28. The Miller Fall Festival will be held Aug. 29 through Sept. 1 in downtown Miller. There will be games and live entertainment nightly. The parade will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1. Participants should gather at 12:30 p.m. at the high school.

Barry County Retired School Personnel will meet on Friday, August 24, at 8:30 a.m. at St. John's Luthern Church in Monett. A hot breakfast will be prepared by some of the members with a meeting to follow.

Local seniors can obtain a Senior Fraud Protection Kit from the area Home Instead Senior Care office as part of the Protect Seniors from Fraud program developed by the nonprofit National Association of Triads and the Home Instead Senior Care network. To obtain a free kit, contact the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Barry, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald and Newton Counties at 417-625-1868.

The Not So Square Arts Festival in Mt. Vernon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mt. Vernon Arts and Recreation Center (The Marc), located at 822 W. Mt. Vernon Blvd. Painters, potters, authors, photographers, jewelry makers and more are welcome to sign up for booth space. For more information, call 417-461-0295.

The 61st annual Crane Broiler Festival will run Aug. 23-25 at the Crane City Park. Booth space is available for Friday and Saturday. The carnival will begin at 6 p.m. on Aug. 22. Pageants will be held on Aug. 24 at the Crane Christian Church Community and Youth Center.

The 100 Mile Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25. The traditional route on Highway 37, through downtown Monett and east from Kyler on Highway 60 will be followed.

A truck and tractor pull, sponsored by the Freistatt Fire Department, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Ernte Fest grounds in Freistatt. There will be a kids pull at 5 p.m. and a tractor pull at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 and free to children 12 and under. Proceeds benefit the Freistatt Fire Department.
