Wheaton Fire Department to host barbecue

It's time for the Wheaton Fire Department's 54th an-nual barbecue, slated to take place starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Wheaton City Park.

The Show and Shine Car Show will begin at 9 a.m. For registration informa-tion, call 417-847-7907.

The 18th annual Spud McCracken Memorial Horseshoe Tournament will begin at 11 a.m. For more information on the tourna-ment, call 417-835-3003.

The Wheaton firefighters will serve barbecue chicken halves with a baked potato, baked beans, and beverage or barbecued pulled pork sandwiches and baked beans starting at 11:30 a.m. Proceeds from the meals will benefit the Wheaton Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of equip-ment.

The Fireman's Ice Cream Booth and homemade pies, donated by the Wheaton United Methodist Women, will also be for sale.

Free children's carnival rides will begin at 1 p.m.

Arts and craft booths will be open underneath tents on the grounds. Free booth spaces are available to craf-ters. For information, call 417-652-7359.

A flagpole and brick dedi-cation ceremony is sched-uled for 3 p.m. at the Wheaton Depot and Mu-seum.

Entertainment gets under-way at 3 p.m. with the gos-pel band Third Generation, followed by the Robbins Band at 4 p.m. The Wilder-ness Band will take the stage at 5 p.m., followed by Barry County Connection at 6 p.m. Winding up the evenings line-up will be Glory Bound at 7 p.m

The final event of the eve-ning is the Duck Race, kicking off at 8 p.m., with cash prizes awarded to the first five winning ducks. First prize is $500, second prize is $250, third prize is $125, fourth prize is $75 and fifth prize is $50.

Attendees can then partici-pate in Edwina Tichenor's Karaoke, starting at 8:30 p.m.
