A very young Monett Lady Cubs tennis team will take the court for the Purple and Gold this season.

The Lady Cubs are two year removed from a conference title and spent most of last season trying to find their identity. This year, more growing pains are to be expected, with a lineup that will feature four new starting faces.

"We graduated four varsity players from a year ago," said tennis coach Bob Crain. "We are in a rebuilding year. We have no seniors so we are hopeful for the future."

Returning for the Lady Cubs are starters Brianna Moss, who was named the team's Most Improved player and Alexandra Ross who won the Team Spirit award as a freshman

Joining the Monett netters are: Brianna Morris, Hannah Pitts, Monica Zengotita, Jesse Jastal, Brianna Ortega, Hannah Pitts, Madison Barnes, Lauren Bass, Meghan Gaines, Katie Tinklepaugh, Iris Wormington, Saloni Patel and Josee Caudill.

"The big key for us is to play as often as we can," said Crain. "I think in the long run we will be better off knowing that we have a couple of years to grow and mature before we lose anyone to graduation."

Monett opens the season on Aug. 23 with Carl Junction. Matches are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
