The Monett Area YMCA is once again accepting registration for its after-school programs, which are held at the Monett Elementary and Central Park schools.
"We will begin the after-school program on the first day of school," said Jeremy Schmidt, child care director. "We have a variety of activities for students in kindergarten through sixth grades, including field trips, science experiments, crafts, games and homework time. Activities vary daily so the kids don't get bored."
The after-school program is in session every day of regular classes and closes when classes are cancelled for inclement weather. The program begins immediately after school and continues until 5:45 p.m.
Participants also receive healthy snacks to stave off the after-school munchies.
"We partner with Ozarks Food Harvest, so the snacks at of high quality and nutritious," Schmidt said.
"These programs also give students the opportunity for more social interaction than the get in school," Schmidt said. "Class schedules are pretty regimented."
Cost for students attending the program full time, four to five days per week, is $50 for members and $62.50 for non-members per month. Cost for part-time attendance, one to three days per week, is $42.50 and $50 per month. Tuition is billed in 18 monthly installments. A $20 per child registration fee is due at the time of sign-up.
Financial assistance is available for students whose parents meet income and eligibility requirements.
After-school programs are also available in Aurora and are held at the Pate Early Childhood Center.
Representatives of the Monett Area YMCA will be attending scheduled open houses for area schools and have more information about the program at those events.
